Since 2010 BeeBEEP has let people in offices, labs and schools chat and share files over their own network,
with no server in between, no account and no cloud.
Its new generation has been taking shape for years: every request from its users, every limit of the old
code, every idea left for later went into its design. Now it is being written, from scratch.
It will be called BeeBEEP 6, and this journal will follow it step by step until the day it comes out.
What stays
The idea behind BeeBEEP does not change: your messages go straight to the people you write to, over your network, and never leave it. No server to install, no registration, no tracking.
What is coming
- Five platforms, one application. Windows, Linux, macOS, and for the first time Android and iOS, all built from the same code on Qt 6.
- End-to-end encryption everywhere. Messages, groups and files encrypted from your device to the recipient's, with modern cryptography (X25519 keys, AES-256-GCM).
- Bluetooth as a second way to talk. Nearby devices will be able to reach each other even when there is no network at all.
- Built for large offices. A company network full of workstations should feel as quick as a small office.
Nobody is left behind
More than a hundred thousand people use BeeBEEP 5 every day, and nobody can move every workstation on the same day. So the new BeeBEEP will also speak the old language, and old and new will be able to chat with each other for as long as it takes.
